Loud music and long nights this month, by Rose Barker
From gritty punk riffs to heartfelt indie-pop, Hull's venues are bursting with talent ready to blow you away this month.
After years in the heart of grassroots gigs, I know there’s nothing like that electric, up-close connection with an artist in an intimate space. Ready to feel it for yourself? Here are seven shows you absolutely can’t miss this month:
Punk history hits Social on Tuesday, November 18 as Mark Laff, original drummer of Generation X, returns with XGENERATIONX (£18). Expect the songs that defined an era, played with Laff’s signature raw energy – a must-see for classic punk fans.
French noise-rockers This Will Destroy Your Ears storm Adelphi on Thursday, November, 20 (£8). Touring their new album Funland, they fuse shoegaze, Britpop and punk textures into a thrilling, experimental live experience.
Skate-punk fans are in for a treat on Friday, November 21 when Ultimate Blink 182 take over O’Rileys (£10). Delivering every anthem you remember, it’ll be chaotic and ridiculously fun.
TikTok sensation Michael Aldag takes Polar Bear on Wednesday, November 26 (£17) for an intimate acoustic indie-pop set. Trading the screen for the stage, he offers honest lyrics, catchy hooks and a warmth that makes you feel each song was written just for you.
That same week, Jess And The Bandits deliver country-infused pop to Wrecking Ball Arts Centre on Friday, November 28 (£16.50). Led by Lone Star State singer Jessica Clemmons, expect infectious energy and irresistible singalong choruses.
Prepare for a chaotic end to the month! Portland hardcore-punk band Dry Socket will unleash their relentless, in-your-face energy at Dive on Sunday, November 30 (£12), guaranteeing a loud and monumental night down in HU5.
For something more relaxed, HOI’s free open-mic afternoons run on Sunday, November 2, 16 and 30. Drop by for acoustic sets, discover new local talent and soak up the cosy creative atmosphere.
And that’s just a glimpse of what Hull’s stages have in store this month. Don't miss your chance to be part of it. Get your tickets, grab a drink – and I'll see you in the crowd!
