Spurn Lightship: Tickets on sale this week
FLOATING HISTORY: Spurn Lightship
By Simon Bristow, Co-Editor
Tickets to board and view floating museum Spurn Lightship will go on sale at 9am on Friday, February 20.
The lightship, the first of the Hull Maritime visitor attractions to open to the public, will begin welcoming visitors again on Friday, March 7, following a 14-month restoration project costing £4m.
Although people without tickets may still be able to visit, capacity is limited so the best way of securing a place will be to book online here.
After its opening day the lightship, which is free to visit, will be open from Wednesday to Saturday each week between 11am and 3pm.
Councillor Mike Ross, leader of Hull City Council, said: “Don’t miss this opportunity to step aboard a piece of Hull’s history and uncover the stories of those who kept the light shining. The Spurn Lightship is a remarkable reminder of our city’s proud maritime past, and it’s fantastic to be able to welcome visitors back on board.”
The 99-year-old vessel, which once served as a floating lightship guiding ships safely through the Humber estuary, offers visitors a unique opportunity to step back in time and explore an important chapter of Hull’s seafaring past.
During their visit to the ship’s berth in Hull Marina, guests can explore the lightship’s interior, learn about the daily lives of the crew who lived and worked on board, and discover the vital role the vessel played in maritime navigation.

Funded by Hull City Council and The National Lottery Heritage Fund, Hull Maritime is one of the biggest and most ambitious heritage projects in the North of England. It is expected to generate £5.5m for the city’s economy each year as well as delivering new employment, skills and training opportunities.
Helen Featherstone, director, England, North at The National Lottery Heritage Fund, said: “It is incredibly exciting to see this element of the Hull Maritime project completed and the Spurn Lightship and now Hullensians can get hold of their tickets to get on board.
“It is thanks to National Lottery players that we have been able to support the restoration of this historic vessel, ensuring its rich story is preserved and shared with visitors near and far for generations to come.”
