One of the region’s most diverse community events will take place in Hull later this month when a Global Food Festival and Run For Palestine return to Pearson Park.
The events, being held on Sunday, June 21, from noon to 6pm, will feature more than 60 stalls including 30 food vendors serving authentic cuisine from around the world.
From Middle Eastern and South Asian delicacies to African, Caribbean and European flavours, the festival aims to showcase the rich diversity that makes Hull such a vibrant city.
Visitors can also enjoy a funfair, arts and crafts activities, community organisation displays, family entertainment and the participation of more than 15 charities, creating a festival atmosphere designed to bring people together from all backgrounds.
Organisers say the event’s primary goal is to strengthen community cohesion and celebrate the cultural diversity that exists across Hull and East Yorkshire.
“This is a truly unique event and the only one of its kind anywhere in the UK,” said Mizanur Rahman of the Crisis Response Team.
“The Hull Global Food Festival is about bringing communities together, celebrating different cultures and creating opportunities for people to learn from one another. Food has an incredible way of connecting people, and this festival allows residents to experience cultures from across the world right here in Hull.”
ON YOUR MARKS: Run for Palestine about to get under way last year
The Run for Palestine charity event had its debut last year when more than 600 runners took part.
It provides participants with an opportunity to support charitable causes while promoting health, wellbeing and community engagement.
“Last year's response exceeded all expectations,” an organiser said. “People came together for a positive cause, enjoyed the atmosphere and created something special for the city. We are looking forward to making this year's event even bigger and welcoming even more participants.”
Registration for the run is open now at iruk.co/runforpalestine. Entry is free for children under 15 and costs £5 for adults.
Every runner will receive a commemorative gold-coloured medal and a goody bag filled with gifts and treats.
The event is also being delivered in partnership with local organisation The Peel Project and Islamic Relief.
Organisers have thanked a number of partners and organisations for helping to make the event possible, including Pearson Park Trust, Hull City Council, Humberside Police, The James Reckitt Charity, Neena Events and the Avenue, Central and Newland ward teams.
