New primary build approved by Schools Commissioner

APPROVED: Broadacre Primary School

APPROVED: Broadacre Primary School

The Broadacre Primary School new build has moved a significant step forward after the project was approved by the Regional Schools Commissioner.

The new build academy will provide 630 pupil places - an additional 210 places to the current school building, on Wawne Road - for children in the North Carr area of the city.

It will also have a 52-place nursery and a 10-place special educational needs autism spectrum disorder provision.

Hull City Council’s major projects and infrastructure team is working in partnership with the school and academy trust on a design and build contract with Hull Esteem and its partners to deliver the new facility, which will see the existing building demolished and replaced.

All academies applying for a significant change are considered by the Regional Commissioner at the Head Teachers Board, and approval has now been granted.

Construction is expected to begin this autumn and it is expected to be completed by spring 2022.

Councillor Peter Clark, portfolio holder for learning, skills and safeguarding children, said: “I am pleased that the project has taken another step forward and works will commence later this year.

“This school is one of several across Hull that are being remodelled or expanded to provide a further 1,110 pupil places - ensuring we meet the rising number of children needing school places.

“Ensuring we provide SEN provision is also a top priority for the city.”

The council has received Basic Need funding from the Department of Education to provide additional pupil places.
