‘Winter Windows’ art trail goes up in city centre
SHOWCASE: The artwork on display at Monocle

Students from Hull College have helped give the city centre a festive feel with the launch of a winter art trail.
Commissioned by HullBID, more than 50 Level 3 Illustration students created original artwork inspired by the season, with 12 chosen by a panel to feature in the trail.
The trail, called Winter Windows, is now on display at locations across the city centre and can be seen until early January. The display includes pictures at The Deep, Hepworth’s Arcade, C4Di, Prospect Centre, St Stephen’s, Monocle and the college.
Illustration lecturer Amy Walker said: “It’s been brilliant working with HullBID on this project, which provided the students with a live brief and the opportunity to have their work exhibited in the city centre to be enjoyed by people living, visiting and working in Hull.

“We have some amazing creative talent at the college and it’s fantastic to be able to showcase this on such a scale.”
Her colleague Laura Johnson added: “The students all worked incredibly hard and we are so proud of each and every single one of them.”
Thanks to the support of Allenby Commercial, all of the participating student’s artwork can also be viewed in a pop-up exhibition at the recently opened Monocle in Ferensway. Held in the building’s ground-floor events space, the students’ work will be on show alongside that of local artists including Charlie Broomfield and Rory Wynn.
Victoria Yates, events, marketing and social media manager at HullBID, said: “It was so difficult to choose only twelve of the student’s work for inclusion in the trail as the standard was so high. Being able to display the work of all of these emerging new talents with this pop-up exhibition is therefore the perfect culmination to the project and creates yet another great reason for people to visit the city centre.
TALENT: Some of the students who took part
“We are incredibly grateful to Allenby Commercial for providing such an amazing setting to exhibit the student’s creativity.”
Georgia Allenby, director at Allenby Commercial, said: “We’re delighted to support this fantastic venture focused on highlighting the creative talent we have in the city.
“We’ve thoroughly enjoyed being part of the selection panel for the trail and are very excited to host the pop-up exhibition in our dedicated events space at Monocle, which is quickly becoming a home to lots of creative industries and businesses.”
The trail and exhibition can be seen until Sunday, January 4.
