Glam & Gloom – 1970’s Britain Exhibition

Streetlife Museum

July 10-August 31, 10am (11am Sunday)

FREE

Kids, imagine a world before the internet, smartphones and social media and the telly only had three channels. Adults, remember the ups and downs of a less complicated life!

An exhibition exploring the highs and hardships of life in the 1970s, a decade beset by rising inflation and seemingly endless strikes. With power cuts and the three-day week at one end of the decade and the ‘winter of discontent’ at the other, it was a time of increased political awareness when ‘women’s libbers’ and teenage punks were fighting for social change.

But the 1970s was also a decade of frivolity and fun!

FREEDOM FESTIVAL TICKETS AVAILABLE NOW

Koby Taylor - The Torch: Tribute to Afrobeat Legend Ebo Taylor

Hull Truck Theatre

August 28 (9pm), August 29 (7.30pm)

Producer and actor Kobby Taylor brings his own brand of gig-theatre to life with live-synth, harp and remixes of classics from Afrobeat legend, his grandad Ebo Taylor.

Vivek Santhosh will bring Moog and prophet synths basslines and pads and progressive harpist Stephanie Halsey will put a modern spin on a traditional instrument.

Kobby’s music blends hip-hop storytelling with jazz tinted Afrobeat grooves. The result is The Torch - part-mixtape, part-confessional, all performed live with the spontaneity of an improvising band.

The Copenhagen Collective - The Genesis

Hull Truck Theatre

£16.50-£28.50

In this breath-taking circus performance, 17 world-class acrobats take to the stage to defy the limits of human movement and emotion.

The Genesis brings together an original soundscape, a rich and atmospheric lighting design, and gravity-defying performers in a piece that celebrates the beauty of diversity in artistic expression.

Prepare for a truly unique experience as these extraordinary artists weave and soar around the stage, creating a beautiful narrative of human connection using just their bodies.
