Relief as new Tigers signing Sorba Thomas unhurt after car overturned

New Hull City signing Sorba Thomas had a lucky escape after apparently overturning his car in an accident near the club’s training ground in Cottingham.

Pictures on social media show a beige Land Rover – with the number plate SOR8A – overturned in Millhouse Woods Lane this morning. Its rear end is in a hedge.

The club issued a brief statement saying the 27-year-old Wales winger had emerged from the crash “completely unscathed”.

It said: “Hull City is relieved to confirm that Sorba Thomas is unharmed following a road traffic accident near to the club’s Cottingham training ground.

“The club is aware of images of Sorba’s car circulating on social media and can reassure supporters that he has sustained no injuries and emerged from his vehicle completely unscathed.”

The Tigers are heading to London today for Saturday’s Premier League fixture against Chelsea, and Thomas is expected to be involved.

Councillor Kevin Casson, East Riding Council member for Cottingham South, posted about the incident this morning alerting people to the road closure.

The vehicle has now been removed and the road has reopened.

Thomas signed from Stoke City on a four-year contract for an undisclosed fee near the end of the summer transfer window.

The versatile attacker was included in the 2025/26 Championship Team of the Year after scoring 10 goals and providing 13 assists in 47 appearances, also earning the Potters’ Player of the Year award. He has been capped 27 times by Wales.

The Tigers have made an outstanding start to their first top-flight campaign in nearly ten years, and after three matches sit third in the table behind leaders Manchester City and Champions Arsenal in second.

They are the only club in England’s four divisions yet to concede a single goal.
