Legacy Funeral Directors: Accused makes first court appearance facing 63 charges

A man has made his first appearance in court charged with 63 offences in connection to a police investigation into Legacy Independent Funeral Directors.

Robert Bush, 47, formerly of Kirk Ella, now of Otley, West Yorkshire, appeared at Hull Magistrates’ Court this morning.

He is charged with:

  • 30 counts of preventing a lawful and decent burial

  • 30 counts of fraud by false representation, relating to families of the deceased recovered from funeral premises

  • Theft from charities

  • Fraudulent trading, relating to funeral plans

  • Fraud by false representation, relating to human ashes.

Humberside Police said all the alleged offences date between May 23, 2012, and March 6, 2024.

Mr Bush was not asked to enter any pleas.

He was released on conditional bail and is due to appear at Hull Crown Court on August 13.
