‘The Lib Dems are delivering for our city’

‘REAL CHANGE’: Councillor Mike Ross, the Liberal Democrat leader of Hull City Council

ADVERTORIAL

2026 is going to be a landmark year for Hull.

Since taking over on Hull City Council, we’ve tried to make the council one that listens to the people of Hull. As council leader, I’ve worked with the team and delivered real change.

The Lib Dems have seen a record amount of money put into a new Crime Prevention Fund. We announced a brand new Love Your Neighbourhood Team to clean hundreds of streets right across the city. We’ve invested in cost-of-living support for children, families and pensioners right across the city.

We’re also fixing Hull’s broken roads and infrastructure. With works starting on Freetown Way and a fully funded plan to fix Hull’s bridges, we’re the only party committed to delivering the change you asked for.

We’ve listened to people who told us they wanted positive change and, one step at a time, we’re delivering for the people.

But I know national politics feels broken at the moment.

The Conservatives never cared about Hull. They ruined our economy, our NHS, and so much more with their years of chaos. Everybody knows they’re not the answer to fixing our city’s problems.

With more Conservative politicians joining Reform UK, I’m sure we’ll see the same chaos, just under a different name.  We know Reform UK just isn’t the answer locally. So many already feel let down by the empty promises the Reform UK made last May. Since winning, there is little to show for Luke Campbell’s time in office. We deserve better than this, and I’ll be demanding better for our city.

And, sadly, Keir Starmer’s Labour Government is making things worse, not better. People tell me they feel like Labour has just lost their way.

We all wanted positive change for our city and our country , and instead we’ve had more drama than you see on the soaps and more U-turns than a broken satnav. From tax hikes on businesses to winter fuel payment cuts, it’s no wonder that so many people feel let down by this Labour Government.

I’m proud to have stood up for Hull when the Government have got it wrong.

When they broke their promise to fix our railways, I demanded they stop failing Hull.  When they cut Winter Fuel Payments, I secured funding to make sure pensioners in Hull still got support.

No matter the colour of the Government in Number 10, I’ll always fight for a fair deal for the people of Hull.

In May, there will be a local election. This election will be about our local communities and who cares most about what happens in our city.

The Liberal Democrat team here will always care about our city, work hard all year round and listen to your concerns. We’ve started delivering some real positive change across the city - back us to carry on delivering for you.
