North Bridge to close for two weekends for road repairs
HEAVY LOAD: North Bridge
By Simon Bristow, Co-Editor
North Bridge is to close for two weekends for resurfacing.
The first closure will start this weekend – at 6am on Saturday, March 21, opening again at 6am on Monday, March.
The second closure will start at 6am on on Saturday, April 11, lasting until 6am on Monday, April 13.
The pedestrian footpaths will remain open but the bridge will be closed to all traffic, including cyclists and emergency vehicles, during these hours.
This work aims to repair deteriorated areas of the road ahead of the additional traffic expected during the upcoming closure of Drypool Bridge, at a date to be announced in May.
Diversions along Drypool Bridge will be in place during the North Bridge closures.
Hull City Council is advising road users to plan their route and allow extra time for journeys during the closures.
Councillor Mark Ieronimo, portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure, said: “With the increased volume of traffic that will use North Bridge as part of the diversion and designated bus route during the upcoming Drypool Bridge closure, these works are essential to ensure the bridge remains safe and operational.
“By repairing the deteriorated areas now, we can prevent them from worsening and avoid a much more disruptive, unplanned closure in the future.
“We understand the inconvenience these weekend closures will cause and appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation whilst our contractors carry out these vital works.”
This work carried out by Midland Industrial Flooring Limited in conjunction with the council’s bridges team and Ashcourt Limited.
Closure dates may change depending on the weather.
