‘BETJEMAN WITH A GUITAR’: Nick Harper

Singer-songwriter Nick Harper will be playing in Cottingham next week as part of his Back in the Room tour.

Harper, who had an iTunes Number 1 with his single Blue Sky Thinking, will perform at the Back Room in Hallgate on Friday, October 15.

Nick is the son of British folk music legend Roy Harper, and grew up surrounded by such rock luminaries as Jimmy Page, Dave Gilmour and Keith Moon.

As well as being a solo artist, Harper has also toured as a member of both Squeeze and The Levellers.

More recently, he has worked with Lana Del Ray, Dizzee Rascal, and and Calvin Harris, as well as working on film soundtracks.

The Cottingham gig will feature much-loved favourites from Harper’s celebrated back catalogue; a run of eleven studio albums that stretches back to his 1995 debut Seed, which prompted critics to laud him as “an incredible talent” and “Betjeman with a guitar”.

Harper’s latest album, Phantastes, is based on the seminal fantasy novel by George MacDonald, featuring spoken word excerpts and musical interpretations of stories and poems.

Gig-goers can expect a warm-hearted celebration of love, life, family and friendship, delivered with “virtuosity, boyish charm, dazzling showmanship and sheer bravado”.

Tickets cost £15 and are available in advance from Skiddle.
