David Quantick & Blake Morrison to be keynote speakers at Larkin society conference

By Simon Bristow, Co-Editor

Writer David Quantick and poet Blake Morrison will be the keynote speakers at a Philip Larkin Society conference next week.

The two-day event, which begins at 9am on Thursday, March 14, is being held in the Kingsley Suite of the Canham Turner Building at the University of Hull.

As well as talks by Quantick and Morrison, the first day will also feature Larkin to Music by Wes Finch and a wine reception at the university art gallery before a conference dinner at The Haworth.

There will be a series of chaired panels each day with question and answer sessions.

The event will conclude on the Friday afternoon with a visit to Larkin’s former office at the university.

The conference is open to all and attendees do not have to be members of the society. Organisers say the conference is a social event and noted that a recent attendee at a society event had observed they found the company “not at all eccentric or odd”.

Tickets cost £40 and include refreshments, lunches and a reception. The dinner will be an informal meal which can be ordered and paid for on the night.

Places can be booked via Eventbrite here.
