Tigers lose transfer embargo appeal but restriction cut to two windows

Hull City have thanked fans for their “unwavering support” after confirming the club has lost its bid to overturn a transfer embargo.
A three-window embargo was imposed by the English Football League (EFL) last month over an alleged late payment for a player transfer.
However, although the appeal to have the restriction overturned has failed, the penalty was reduced to two transfer windows. This means City cannot pay transfer or loan fees for any player until next summer.
The club said in a statement: “Following our appeal to the Club Financial Review Panel, we have received confirmation that the three-window transfer fee restrictions imposed on us have been reduced to two windows, with the third window suspended. Our justification regarding the payment dates was not accepted by the panel.
“As we have demonstrated in recent weeks, we still remain able to sign players – either on loan or as free agents. We want to take this moment to sincerely thank all our fans for their unwavering support during these challenging times. Our unity and solidarity have shown the football world the strength of the Hull City family.”
The statement concluded with a defiant message, which said in capital letters: “CHALLENGES WILL NEVER BREAK US; THEY ONLY MAKE US STRONGER.”
The Tigers have got off to a solid start to the new season under new head coach Sergej Jakirović – following a creditable 0-0 draw at Coventry on the opening day of the season with a thrilling 3-2 home victory over Oxford on Saturday.
City are 9th in the early Sky Bet Championship table and host Blackburn at the MKM Stadium on Saturday.
