Consultation opens on proposals for Holderness Road conservation area

People who live, work or socialise in part of Holderness Road are invited to share their thoughts on proposed updates to its conservation area.
The area from the crossroads with Mount Pleasant to the junction with Witham and Clarence Street, as well sections of side streets off Holderness Road, is subject to a new character appraisal and management plan.
A public consultation for all residents, business, visitors, and property and landowners within the conservation area is open until Sunday, September 27.
It follows a re-survey of the area as part of Hull City Council’s ongoing strategic review of all of Hull’s 27 conservation areas.
The re-survey confirmed the special interest of Holderness Road West Conservation Area based on the collection of commercial, industrial and residential late Victorian and Edwardian buildings located along Holderness Road and its side streets.
A proposed new character appraisal and management plan identified important architectural features and buildings of key interest, as well as providing guidance on future developments and planning applications.
Councillor Paul Drake-Davis, the council’s portfolio holder for economic renewal and housing, said: “Holderness Road West Conservation Area is one characterised by period buildings.
“It is important that Hull’s proud history and heritage is maintained, whilst also ensuring that buildings are fit for purpose in the modern world.
“This demonstrates the council’s commitment to ensuring all of Hull’s conservation areas are up-to-date and we urge those who work, live and socialise in the area to have their say on these proposals to help to shape its future.”
A public consultation session on the proposals is being held in Hull’s Guildhall in Alfred Gelder Street on Thursday, September 3 from noon to 4.30pm.
