New houses being built in Orchard Park will be some of the most energy-efficient in the city, Hull City Council has said.

Construction has begun on 34 new properties in Isledane which will be available for social rent from the council.

The scheme includes installing environmentally-friendly low-carbon features including air source heat pumps, which can help to save money on electricity and heating bills and help tackle climate change.

The new houses will add to 99 further affordable homes already in development at nearby Dane Park.

Caddick Construction Limited is carrying out the work, which is expected to be completed in early 2027.

Councillor Paul Drake-Davis, the council’s portfolio holder for housing, said: “Residents have told us that their top priority is having somewhere safe, comfortable and affordable to live. We’re able to provide that whilst also making these homes really energy efficient.

“This latest development in Orchard Park allows us to expand the available housing options, and they add to the hundreds of homes already built in the area in recent times.”

The authority’s Housing Growth Strategy outlines plans to deliver almost 6,000 homes in the city over the next six years.

The Isledane scheme is funded in part by Homes England’s Affordable Homes Programme, the Brownfield Land Release Fund from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, and the Brownfield Land Fund from the Hull and East Yorkshire Combined Authority.
