Civic funeral announced for former Lord Mayor Anita Harrison

A civic funeral for former Lord Mayor of Hull Anita Harrison will take place at Hull Minster later this month.

Described as “a force of nature”, the long-serving Labour city councillor died last month aged 71.

The service, which will begin at 11am on Wednesday, June 17, will follow a civic procession from the Guildhall to the minster.

A burial service will take place at Northern Cemetery at 1pm.

Family, friends, colleagues and members of the community are warmly invited to attend a reception at the Guildhall from 2pm to celebrate Councillor Harrison’s life and service.

She served as a councillor for 24 years, first being elected in 2002 in the Bransholme East Ward, and most recently representing North Carr.

Councillor Harrison served as Lord Mayor and Admiral of the Humber between 2015 and 2016, when she proudly promoted Hull during the run-up to its year as UK City of Culture in 2017.
